At Norra Hamngatan 12 the East India Company had their headquarters. The building, taking up an entire block along the harbour canal, was completed in 1762. Here they had store rooms, offices and an auction hall. Naturhistoriska museet This Natural History Museum is the oldest museum in Gothenburg. The Museum was built 1833. The museum was first placed inside the East India House but moved in 1923 to an own building in Slottsskogen. 1981 the museum also got some new exhibiton areas.
The Gothenburg Museum of Art also houses the Hasselblad Center, which shows contemporary photography. It produces three major exhibitions every year, one of which features the annual Hasselblad Prize winner.

The Museum of World Culture (Världskulturmuseet) is one of four Museums of World Culture in Sweden. The museum is located in Gothenburg and is part of the government agency National Museums of World Culture.
